Driving Knowledge Base & FAQ’s

A new Knowledge Base & FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions) has been added to the Driving Schools Directory website.

The knowledge base’s structure and content is obviously in its early day’s but it will be built up over time.

This is where it would be great if you could help us here. It would be brilliant if we could have the numero uno knowledge base for everything and anything related to driving. I think to achieve that though it would need to be a team effort. Do you fancy being part of that team?

So, please browse on over, have a look and see if you can add anything to it, whether that is a full question and answer or simply a question to be answered.
http://www.driving-schools-directory.co.uk/faqs/

The basic structure is layed out but if you feel there should be another category or sub-category, just mention that in your submission or drop me an email.

I’m really looking forward to developing this with you.

Learning How To Drive With Crash Course Driving Tutorials

One of the supreme freedom that mankind has is the ability to drive. However, it is becoming gradually more hard on our roads now, as the number of cars increase year on year. It is thought that as many as 25% of every drivers are doing so without a legal authorization. There is no way of justifying this. Being in charge of a car is not just a great liberty, but also an prize and freedom. Because of this, it is only right to be taught how to drive by competent instructors. As our frenzied lifestyles command more of our time, many people are turning to crash course driving coaching over the more customary technique.

As with any way of learning, numerous methods work another way for certain people. Because of this, it is good to understand the advantages of both driving tutorial alternatives.

As intensive driving lessons are, by their very classification, a program of intense teaching, you may uncover the weather and areas in which you drive somewhat limited. With the more prolonged courses, often extending over a period of months, you will have the experience of many varied conditions.

As mentioned above, being a concentrated procedure, learners on crash lessons driving lessons are put under quite severe pressure. This is highlighted even more if attending a residential lessons, where you are surrounded by all things driving throughout the entire week; morning, twelve noon and night! If you can deal with pressure, great! If you blossom under pressure, excellent! If not, it is most likely best not to put yourself through it - learning to drive is a uneasy enough anyway.

Because of the demanding nature of concentrated driving lessons, it is also fundamental that you give them your total attention. Having gone to a great expense to get yourself through the program, it would be galling to fail for whatever reason.

How To Drive More Safely

This article is not another one on how to learn basic driving skills. You don’t need to be reading about changing lanes, parallel parking and turn signals. Instead you will be learning about the risks taken when drinking and driving and how drinking even a little before driving can cause major problems. Associations like MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, have been able to make great strides in educating people about driving after drinking. However you should consider how drinking can affect your driving skills.

Just one drink can affect the way you multitask. Multitasking is a hard skill to accomplish even without alcohol and when you are under the influence it can become extremely hard. Some classic TV shows make fun of drunken people messing up as they try to multitask. We lose our ability to function normally when we are drinking and multitasking is a major skill that is affected.

Driving takes a lot of concentration, even for a sober person. One must constantly be watching side mirrors, rearview mirrors, and out the front windshield. Even on country roads where the chance of seeing someone else is small, we are paying attention to the road, our surroundings, and watching for any impending dangers (like animals in or near the road). If we can’t devote our full attention to driving, then driving is impaired.

Really busy roads can be difficult to drive on even without the influence of alcohol. This is because there are many things that can change in a moment. You can never assume what the other drivers on the road will do. The elderly lady beside you can decide to change lanes suddenly or brake a long distance before a stop sign. Other drivers might not be as careful as they should be. Reaction times are slower when you have consumed alcohol. What should be an easy task of navigating through traffic becomes a difficult one when we are slowed down by alcohol and the chances of having an accident increase.

This article just illustrates a few points of how even the smallest amount of alcohol can prevent you from driving safely. Driving under the influence is just not the smartest thing to do. Given the dangers of driving after drinking, it is best to try to take preventive action. Something to think about is choosing a designated driver, or even abstain from alcohol altogether. If you really cannot arrange any alternative you can always just sleep in your car. The sacrifice will be well worth it as your safety and that of others is of paramount importance.

How To Select A The Professional Driving Instructor

Before you get behind the wheel, it is imperative that you hire a driving instructor to help you become an excellent driver. Aspire to become a good, well practiced driver as driving itself is a big responsibility.Finding a good instructor is a key step in achieving this. Choosing a good instructor is essential to learning to become a good driver. In the UK any instructor should be registered with the Driving Standards Agency. Any instructor not registered with the DSA cannot legally charge you for lessons. These DSA registered instructors are usually referred to as ADI’s (Approved Driving Instructors).

A good qualified instructor should help you pass the test with ease. You are now ready to drive on your own. Car insurance is expensive but it is illegal to drive on the road without it. Pay as you drive is often good place to look for young driver insurance. This insurance works by charging you a mileage rate with costs being much higher for the most dangerous times such as the middle of the night.

A good instructor will teach you all aspects of driving. This includes motorway driving, parallel parking, emergency stopping, hill starts and much more. Recent driving surveys indicates that a student driver that was taught how to drive with an Approved Driving Instructor pass their driving test the first time, unlike those who have not practice with an Approved Driving Instructor. The green certificated issued to any ADI is usually displayed in the instructors cars windscreen. A trainee who is being trained to become an Approved Driving Instructor, will have a pink certificate on their windscreen. The DSA has rigorous standards and tests to pass before approving any prospective instructor. The trainee will hive taken and passed a comprehensive driving tested and maintained a 4 year unblemished license.

Safety Advice for Coping with a Punctured Tyre When Driving

Driving the speed limit often means driving at a high rate, which can be dangerous if your tyre develops a rupture. Even the most seasoned motorists will feel fear as they struggle to control the car.

Depending on the severity of the puncture you may still have limited control over the vehicle, which will allow you to stop the car safely and in a position where it does not cause a hazard to other road users.

As soon as you suspect that one of the tyres has developed a puncture you need to fight the natural initial instinct to brake sharply and pull over to the side of the road as soon as possible. Instead stay calm, take a firm grip on the steering wheel and avoid using any harsh steering or braking inputs and allow your speed to gently decrease naturally.

It can be trying to steer your car when you are at high speed with a hole in the tyre. By reacting too quickly you can cause a spin out due to the force placed on the car. The tyre will also have a loose grip on the road. After speed has been reduced it is much easier to move the vehicle off the road and allow it to stop naturally.

With your vehicle safely stopped at the side of the road and with your hazard lights on, you should only attempt to change the flat tyre yourself if it will not put you or other road users at risk. Do not attempt to change a tyre yourself on a motorway, even if it is on the nearside, as it could be the last thing you ever do, instead notify the rescue services and they will despatch a recovery service to assist you.

When it is safe to change the tyre on the road you will need to get all mechanical equipment to change the tyre out of the car as well as anyone else in the car. The parking brake should be set. Any lights you have in the car can help you see the tyre more clearly especially during dusk or late evening. Always have your hazard coat on to allow any motorist to see you.

Your cars owner manual will list the safety points for where to place the jack. Before jacking up the wheel secure the vehicle on the jack in the appropriate location.

When re-tightening the nuts after replacing the wheel always make sure you tighten them in opposite pairs, to ensure the wheel is fixed securely against the axel face, before driving off again.

Being stranded at the side of the road can be a stressful experience for any motorist especially at night, so make sure you are visible to other drivers by leaving your Sidelight Car Bulbs on. It is also a good idea to consider installing Upgrade Car Light Bulbs, which will make your vehicle more visible at night.

How to Be a Better and Safer Night Time Driver

Your vision at night is reduced not only because you are exhausted, but also a lack of light, which makes it tough for you to avoid possible dangers or other motorists. There is one great thing about night motoring, though, and that is less traffic on the streets, providing you with more liberty when driving.

Before setting out for a night drive it is a good idea to check that your headlights are clean and function correctly. This is also true, and a legal requirement, for your sidelights as well as your number plate lights. Headlight alignment is very important as incorrectly aligned headlights can irritate or dazzle other road users. If you suspect your headlights are misaligned arrange for them to be tested and reset by a qualified auto mechanic.

Any time you have items in your back seat or boot which are heavy your headlights could increase in height. Drivers will certainly find this troublesome, but with the adjustment switch inside your vehicle you can modify where the headlights are pointing.

Your vehicle lights should be turned on when the street lights are on. During grey days or unfavourable weather you should have your headlamps on. Any time there is a low light it is a good idea to have your headlamps on. Dark coloured vehicles can be more difficult to see by others; therefore your lights can help make other drivers be aware that you are on the road.

Dipped beam headlamps should be used at night, unless you are on a street with low or no light. In this instance your main beams should be used. Your bright lights can distract other drivers, pedestrians, or motorcyclists. You should switch them off when you approach another car, person, motorcycle, or bicycle.

Anytime you follow another vehicle the dipped beam head lights need to be used. When you feel you need to pass another vehicle be aware that your sight can be reduced and illusions can be created by shadows. Dips or curves in the road can be particularly difficult as you pass another vehicle.

There are some things you can do to prevent the effects hazards can cause on your visibility. A person driving at night tends to be drawn to lights, especially headlights. You can avoid this feeling by looking to the left of the oncoming lights.

Dirt, road grime, or grease on your windscreen may create an optical illusion that is both dangerous and annoying. Chips and cracks can change the refraction of the light as well. It is best to change your rear view mirror to night driving setting, in order to lessen the impact of other vehicles behind you. You also need to consider when you might need to slow down on a bend or at a junction as lights may affect you.

Motorists driving during the night should be unworried about the dangers, and instead enjoy the experience of open roads without traffic.

Due to the lack of ambient light when night driving it is important that you always fit the best car bulbs that you can afford. Because bulb technology has advanced considerably you can now install new H7 xenon bulbs that ensure that you can see much further into the darkness.

You Need To Be Safe On The Road

Learning to drive requires that you understand the rules of the road, the different aspects of your vehicle, and the defensive methods that will keep you safe. Operating a motor vehicle is a great privilege that requires you understand all of the important details that will keep you safely driving.

All of these aspects are important to your ability to stay safe on the road. Five of the most important things you should know are in this article. Here is information about car insurance, car for safety, aggressive drivers, and defensive driving. When you are learning to drive, you must consider all of these items.

Costs of insurance can be high and difficult to pay every month; however, if you do not have insurance and you continue to drive you could be putting yourself in danger of losing your license, high fines, and even possibly jail time. Some things you can do to reduce the costs of car insurance include taking defensive driving courses and being careful to avoid even small accidents.

Importance of insurance is not just about keeping your license after you learn to drive, but also to protect you and your passengers in case of an accident - it can happen to anyone. You can be driving along peacefully, and someone pulls out in front of you or slams into your back-end. If your state requires insurance and you are hit without having insurance, you are legally responsible for the accident.

Your car insurance is not the only important thing you need - you need to make sure you keep up on the needs of your car. For instance, you should always be checking your car to make sure it is operating correctly and safely. You should monitor your car’s fluids, tires, and other needs of your vehicle. Running out of gas on the highway can cause an accident as you try to get to the side of the road. A sudden flat tire can damage your vehicle and even cause you to drive off the road.

It is important to drive defensively, as this is the only way to be aware of other drivers that may be driving aggressively or not paying attention to other drivers. When you are driving defensively, you have accomplished the next major safety need of driving and will be safer on the road.

Some dangers that happen from aggressive drivers are caused by speeding, failing to stop or give right of way, and not looking when in parking lots or pulling out from driveways. Your driving should always be defensive and avoiding aggressive behavior on the road.

Understanding the rules of the road is essential when learning to drive. This requires not only road rules and regulations but also the safety of your vehicle and the safety of other drivers on the road. When you are learning to drive, be sure to read your vehicle’s manual, the state book on driving, get car insurance, and watch out for aggressive drivers that could put you at risk.

Unless You’re Wearing A Badge My Driving Is My Own Business

That’s when it hit me, tomorrow I get my very first driver’s license. It is just a learner’s permit and I will have to an experienced driver with me but I am on my way to joining my friends in this newfound freedom. Having studied the Rules of the Road from cover to cover I might not miss even one question on the examination.

“Rules of the Road” is the name driving manuals come to be known by. It is the bible of the driver both young and old. At first, such instructions as: “driver on the right yield right of way to driver on the left” make no sense. At an all way stop intersection if the other driver is on your right he/she should go first is what they mean.

Using the public highways gets you where you want to go but puts you in contact with lots of others. Emergency vehicles, school buses, law enforcement, national leaders and mostly ordinary people ride the roads. When you stint on your driving education and aren’t sure if a certain sign is merely warning you or telling you it is a law, trouble is brewing. Passing a stopped school bus isn’t just reckless it may take the life of a youngster. Driving faster than the posted limit isn’t smart either.

Films about air combat often mention how the inexperienced pilots found flying late in the last big war were no match for old veterans. The same thing holds true with new drivers. They have seen fewer situations and thus have not gained valuable experience.

Having paid attention in science classes in school will keep you in touch with the forces a heavy vehicle traveling at high speed is subject to. Centrifugal force, for instance, experienced going around a curve requires the driver to enter the curve and then speed up getting out of it. This will be uncomfortable at first but then become second nature.

Braking your vehicle is something you will develop a feel for. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) put a computer system there to help. Thousands of times per second the computer applies the brakes and then releases them. Law enforcement officials crashed many vehicles when ABS was first introduced. No more pumping the brake on modern cars.

Air bags, seat belts, steering columns that collapse and don’t impale drivers have all added to driving safety. However, the biggest safety feature in highway travel has always been the driver. Recently use of cell phone and even texting while driving has created the so-called perfect storm.

Regardless of the expense of the vehicle and its number of safety features there is a beloved member of a European royal family lying dead today. No question driving is at first a thrill and taste of independence which later becomes access to a conveyance for business and source of pride and evidence of success. Never forget it can kill you too.

My pupil base is constantly increasing as happy new drivers are recommending my services. My style is to create a relaxed, often humorous atmosphere in the car, as I believe nervous pupils are able to learn more quickly when they feel at ease. For this reason I have never considered ‘car sharing’. All lessons are one to one and tailored for you.

Watching Them Learning To Drive

As rites of passage go, they don’t come very much bigger than learning to drive. It marks a definite pivotal moment in an adolescent’s life when they take their first tentative steps towards striking out by themselves. The ever-considerate parent is forced to go through this with them, and it’s generally with no small amount of stress. You sit next to them in the car and try to ignore the distressing sounds coming from your cars gearbox and the distinctive smell of burnt clutch. Frankly, it’s quite an effort. You are also expected to do this while remaining positive and supportive, and alert enough to avert potential hazards.

However, your position in the passenger seat is a vital one. Driving on modern roads is a heady mixture of good luck, honed technique, and a considerable amount of experience. It is our job to provide this experience at this stage. You should be well place to anticipate pitfalls before tragic consequences ensue.

The trick to avoiding each session riding shotgun turning into a fraught and stressful one is good preparation. Try to practice skills that are currently being taught in their paid for sessions with a qualified instructor. Take each of the necessary skills required one at a time, and have some realistic expectations in your mind for each session.

As suggested, experience is by far the best teacher so give the learner the chance to practice their skills and improve their abilities on a variety of roads in a range of prevailing conditions. Try to take in rush hour traffic and fast, multi-lane, carriageways. The importance of night driving and driving in adverse weather conditions cannot be overstated either.

One tip for safe driving is to give the novice the chance to work with the sort of roads they will spend most of their early driving careers driving on. These are those roads to be found around your home. By example, I lived in a pretty rural location, but did my lesions after work each day in a neighbouring city. I did most of my driving on narrow, winding, lanes despite never having touched upon these during my lessons.

The first place you should take the new driver ought to be a deserted car park. This allows a wide-open space where the basic manoeuvres and skills can be perfected. These might be braking and turning. If possible, lay out a makeshift course with any traffic cones that can be found lying about. With just a bit of imagination you can create an opportunity to practice gear changes, around corner reversing, and the feared parallel park, in safety.

As a car owner one area you can impart some invaluable knowledge is that of basic maintenance and the basic safety checks that are just as muck a part of driving. These things are never touched upon by driving instructors. Things like changing a wheel, where the tools are, and how to top up the oil should be covered.

In short, if thing are kept well structured and simple you should both really enjoy this time. Make lessons out of the mistakes that will crop up and tackle things with the right attitude and this may become something of a bonding opportunity.

SEO: The Importance Of Backlinks

After researching search engine optimisation you will more than likely have come across the term “backlink”. Backlinks are basically hyperlinks that link to your website from another. Search engines put use these backlinks to find out how relevant your web page is for a particular search term. For example, type the keyword term “click here” into Google. I bet the number one result is Adobe Reader, right? How can this be the case?

If you examine the Adobe Reader website you’ll probably not find the phrase “click here” anywhere on it. The reason you won’t find it is because it’s not there… so why does Google think it’s the most relevant site for this keyword? Well, the answer is straightforward - millions and millions of websites link to this site with the anchor text of “click here” and because so many sites all do this, Google thinks that this site HAS to be the most relevant for this term.

What’s a good backlink?

So we have proven that search engines put a lot of weight behind keywords, but the quality of the backlinks are also checked. Backlinks that come from websites that have a high page rank (i.e. Google considers them good websites) are a lot more important than backlinks from pages with low page ranks. A backlink from the BBC website for example is worth a lot more than a backlink from a website that was created yesterday.

Google also considers the quantity of backlinks, although this may not be as important as quality. The truth is, nobody really knows the Google algorithm.

Another thing to note is that search engines look at the relevance between websites. If there is a link from a website about SEO and this links to a website about cars, there is little relevance here and Google will probably consider the backlinks low quality.

How can you get backlinks?

Backlinks can be generated by blogging and writing articles where you put in the resource box at the end a couple of backlinks. Additionally you can buy backlinks or ask other website owners to post a couple on their website. By ignoring backlinks you will be at a significant disadvantage and will probably not rank well in Google. But by getting a lot of backlinks you can do very well and even end up on Googles first page of results.
