Way back in the early 1990s Select Driving School was amongst the very first driving schools to offer Intensive Driving Courses. Until that time the traditional way to learn to drive was usually to have one or two lessons a week. This took several weeks, months and in some cases years for learners to reach test standard, often forgetting what they had learnt from one week to the next.
These days spend a few minutes clicking through the internet and you will find numerous driving schools offering such courses. Most, if not all will be cheaper too. This unfortunate attitude of stack them high and sell them cheap has no place in road safety. Select Driving School refuses to compete financially with these other schools, as to do so would inevitably mean having to lower our standards or cut corners. This we are not prepared to do under any circumstances.

Automatic lessons are fantastic for clients who perhaps have tried manual lessons in the past and have not enjoyed having to constantly change gear and use the clutch, or simply prefer driving an automatic car. Automatic lessons are the modern alternative to learning on a manual. The car will not stall or roll back on a hill and you can never be in the wrong gear !
Not only are automatic cars much easier to learn in, they are also far safer to drive. This is because whilst driving you will be able to keep both hands on the steering wheel instead of having to change gear. Also, this will allow you to multi-task much easier and concentrate more on your driving and the road ahead.
Select Driving School will soon be proud to offer automatic driving lessons in the fantastic new VW Eos. A truly outstanding car with the latest generation DGS gearbox. Volkswagen state ‘The DSG gearbox offers a genuine alternative to a manual gearbox because it is able to change gear faster than a manual gearbox and more smoothly than a conventional automatic’.

In addition to specialising in Intensive Driving Courses, Select Driving School also offer weekly driving tuition. Lessons may be taken in one hour, ninety minute, or two hour slots. We are happy to offer this tuition seven days a week

Weekly lessons are ideal for clients who are not in a hurry to learn and wish to take advantage of our pay-as-you-learn scheme.
Q. What documants do I need to start my driving lessons or intensive driving course ?
A. You must hold a current provisional licence. This may be the new photographic style or older style with a valid passport. If you are not in possession of your provisional licence please call the office now on Tel: 0208 505 8810 so arrangements may be made for the paperwork to be sent to you.
Q. Do I need to have passed my theory test before I can start my intensive driving course or driving lessons ?
A. No, you do not need to have passed your theory test prior to starting your intensive driving course or driving lessons, however you will need to have a valid theory pass certificate prior to taking your driving test.
Q. Can I take my intensive driving course or driving lessons at a date and time suitable for me ?
A. Yes, in most cases Select Driving School will tailor your intensive driving course or driving lessons to best suite your requirements. This can be over just a few days or weeks. Please let us know at the time of your booking or further enquiry.
Q. Will I share my intensive driving course with another pupil ?
A. No, Select Driving School will only ever offer private one-to-one tuition. Again, this worrying trend by some schools to offer this type of course has in our opinion little to do with enhancing the learning experience of the client, and everything to do with maximising the profits for the school. Select Driving School enable you to learn in a comfortable and private environment where you will learn to drive by activly doing and not by watching.
Q. I want to do an intensive driving course, but Im worried that it may be too much driving each day.
A. It would be unrealistic and dangerous to expect any learner drivier ( or experienced driver ! ) to drive all day, every day and learn new skills to a high standard. Because Select Driving School will only ever offer private tuition your intensive driving course day will be limited to four hours. Throughout the day both you and your instructor will have a short refreshment break, in order to provide a comfortable and efficent learning environment. This arrangement will also satisfy our own health and safety recommendations. After many years of running intensive driving courses we regard four hours tuition as the optimum lesson duration for both client and instructor.
Q. I have noticed some schools offer more driving each day. Can I learn with Select Driving School and increase my daily hours ?
A. It is highly unlikely that we would offer you more than four hours driving each day. Remember you dont share then day, you will be doing all the driving. Even three hours will comfortably be the equivalent of driving from London to Wales ! Would you really want to then turn around and drive all the way back to London again and do that every day? Remember what we said under our heading Intensive Driving Courses Information Select Driving School will not emulate the working practices of other driving schools, its not what our clients would expect or deserve.
Q. Lots of my friends learnt to drive and passed their test years ago. Im worried that Im now too old. Do you have an upper age limit ?
A. Select Driving School welcome clients of all ages. The vast majority of our clients tend to be more mature. Providing you are fit and well we are more than happy to teach any pupil irrespective of age. We regularly teach pupils in their thirties, forties, fifties and older. This is especially true within London. We offer off road tuition to young clients over the age of fourteen and from seventeen on road. All driving licences require renewal at age seventy.
Q. I want to learn with Select Driving School but worried that you may not cover my area.
A. For intensive driving courses please see our areas covered section of this site. We pride ourselves in being flexible. Select Driving School is based primarily in Woodford Green / South Woodford, London. Situated on the central line and just 18 minutes from Liverpool Street station, London, we are very popular with clients who prefer to travel to us. The area where we teach locally is a fantastic location away from the stress of London traffic. Nearby we have three very nice test centres, two are semi-rural. Sir Mick Jaggers son James recognised this opportunity and travelled to us for his intensive driving course and passed first time after just five days !
Q. I have a disability. Can I still learn with Select Driving School or take an intensive driving course ?

Q. Can I learn in an automatic car, and do you charge any extra for this ?
A. We are more than happy to teach in our automatic car and have been doing so for over fifteen years. There is no extra charge for automatic tuition. Why not view our new automatic car on this site. The fantastic new VW Eos will soon be joining our other tuition vehicles. This stunning car will be easy to drive as well as stylish. Believed to be the only tuition Eos in the country, another example of what sets Select Driving School appart.
Q. I have found some schools cheaper than Select Driving School. Why is this ?
A. Yes, this may be true and we make no apology for this. Select Driving School will be more expensive than most. We are not a cheap driving school and dont pretend to be. We and our clients feel that Select Driving School will offer you amongst the highest level of professional driver training and customer service available within the UK. We dont have standard intensive driving courses. Each intensive driving course is bespoke and tailored to your specific needs. Using a highly successful and recognised driver training syllabus we will guide you through your course step-by-step. This approach together with extensive experience will ensure you are thoroughly prepared prior to taking your test. This will give you the best possible chance of passing first time and ultimately saving you money in the long term. Many of our clients come to us having been miserably disapointed elsewhere, and have gone on to be successful. Whilst not always the case remember, you generally get what you pay for. Q. I am not familiar with Select Driving School. How do I know I will receive a high standard of tuition and customer care ?
