SEO: The Importance Of Backlinks

After researching search engine optimisation you will more than likely have come across the term “backlink”. Backlinks are basically hyperlinks that link to your website from another. Search engines put use these backlinks to find out how relevant your web page is for a particular search term. For example, type the keyword term “click here” into Google. I bet the number one result is Adobe Reader, right? How can this be the case?

If you examine the Adobe Reader website you’ll probably not find the phrase “click here” anywhere on it. The reason you won’t find it is because it’s not there… so why does Google think it’s the most relevant site for this keyword? Well, the answer is straightforward - millions and millions of websites link to this site with the anchor text of “click here” and because so many sites all do this, Google thinks that this site HAS to be the most relevant for this term.

What’s a good backlink?

So we have proven that search engines put a lot of weight behind keywords, but the quality of the backlinks are also checked. Backlinks that come from websites that have a high page rank (i.e. Google considers them good websites) are a lot more important than backlinks from pages with low page ranks. A backlink from the BBC website for example is worth a lot more than a backlink from a website that was created yesterday.

Google also considers the quantity of backlinks, although this may not be as important as quality. The truth is, nobody really knows the Google algorithm.

Another thing to note is that search engines look at the relevance between websites. If there is a link from a website about SEO and this links to a website about cars, there is little relevance here and Google will probably consider the backlinks low quality.

How can you get backlinks?

Backlinks can be generated by blogging and writing articles where you put in the resource box at the end a couple of backlinks. Additionally you can buy backlinks or ask other website owners to post a couple on their website. By ignoring backlinks you will be at a significant disadvantage and will probably not rank well in Google. But by getting a lot of backlinks you can do very well and even end up on Googles first page of results.

Driving School Websites Are Here!

Having a web site for your driving school is an absolute must these days. If a potential pupil looks at two driving schools, one has a website that provides them with the information they are looking for and the other doesn’t, who do you think they are likely to call? It also makes it easier for them to communicate with you via email.

We have made it very easy to have your own great looking website that you can update yourself at any time - no special skills are required with our very easy Content Management System (CMS). If you can type an email or a text document you are more than qualified to update your website whenever you want.

The process is simple. Select the template you prefer, choose a domain name for your website, we will upload and set-up everything then simply login to your CMS control panel and input your content. Whenever you hit the ‘Save’ button, your website will display the content you have just entered.

There are five pages included with every website including a contact page with a pre-built web enquiry form so that you do not miss those important emails. All emails will be directed through your normal email address so on your business cards, letter headings etc., you can have any email address you like e.g. lessons@MyWebsite.co.uk and they will all arrive at your usual email address - no messy email configuration required.

Whats Included

bullet 5 Page Website

Gain Trust and Give Your Website the Competitive Edge

If you don’t have a website for your driving school you really should get that sorted! Long gone are the days when pupils thumbed through the Yellow Pages.

Let’s assume that you do have a website. What is it doing for you? Why did you get one? The simple answer is, or it least should be, that it is your shop window. Why should a pupil purchase from your shop rather than one of your competitors?

When a pupil is browsing your website they are doing so to find information that will help them come to a buying decision. So, apart from stating the obvious such as price, you can provide automatic lessons, you do Pass Plus, the areas you cover (believe it or not I have seen many driving schools websites that don’t give the areas covered!) etc., you also need to persuade them to contact you.

One of the biggest factors in the buying decision process is trust (in this scenario the buying is to get them to contact you). If you could talk to them on the phone I would bet that they would start to instil trust in you. It’s a natural thing to do.

How can you do this with your website? The easiest and most powerful way to do this is to have YOU talking to them as soon as they land on your website. You won’t have to hope that they read all the vital information; you give it to them by word of mouth to ensure nothing is missed. The potential pupil will also feel and see that you are real person and cannot help than to start the process of trust, albeit subconsciously.

This technique is used very widely in the internet marketing sphere and with great success. I don’t think I have yet to come across one driving school website that does this.
If you want to get ahead of the game, gain competitive edge and have your website conversion rates increase you will want to explore personalising your website with your own spoken words.

Here is the solution I used on the Driving Schools Directory.

Do Yourself A Favour

Last week I announced the Instant Email Notification
of new pupil requests and the Text Call Back Requests.

Any feedback you have on these systems and how it is
working for you would be great to receive.

————————-
Do Yourself A Favour!
————————-

Please take a look at your listing.
A shortcut you can use is:
www.driving-schools-directory.co.uk/instructors.asp?IN=YOURTOWNNAME

That will get you straight to one of your pages.

When you get to each of the towns pages that you cover,
please do 3 things:

—–
ONE
—–

Take a look at the slightly re-designed layout.
Comments?

At the bottom of your entry you will
see a link ‘Add to del.icio.us’.

That is the most popular Social Bookmarking
website out there in CyberSpace!

Click the link and bookmark the towns page
for each town you cover. For those of you
with umpteen towns (you know who you are!!)
perhaps initially bookmark your major towns.

You may need to sign up with del.icio.us
but that is a quick and painless process.

The ‘Tags’ to use are up to you but I would
suggest something like:
DrivingSchool, DrivingLessons, DrivingInstructor,
DrivingSchoolTownName

Once you have done that, move over to your own
website and do exactly the same!

——————————–
WHY FOR PETE’S SAKE? I AM BUSY!!
——————————–

Easy, that website carries an awful lot of
weight and authority.

The more times that website points back to
the towns pages and your website, the more
the search engines will love you, the more
traffic you will get and therefore more
business.

You may want to use that website in the
future for bookmarking web pages rather
than than using the traditional browser
bookmarks / favourites. It is easier
to find what you saved because of the
‘tags’ you have used and you can access
these pages from any computer. It is
the way to go folks!

WARNING!

If you bookmark the same page from the
same computer numerous times, that is Spam
and not a good thing. Just please do it the once.

——
TWO
——

Take a look at the towns you cover.

Ensure that you have ALL the towns and
villages you cover. If you need to amend
the listing, Sponsored listings can
do so from the Members area.

Please drop me an email to say that you have
updated the listing and I will then
ensure we have a towns page for
each of your towns.

Ordinary listings, please drop me
an email with the additional towns you
wish to have placed.

————————————
WHY MARK? I AM STILL BUSY YOU KNOW!!
————————————

People search for things like:
driving school laleham

Laleham is near / part of Staines.
If I didn’t list that town/village,
the pupil would contact a driving school
that did have it listed on the Laleham
towns page notwithstanding
that I also covered that town!

People DO NOT search for:
‘etc.’
‘and all surrounding areas’

See where I am coming from?

——
THREE
——

Once finished bookmarking the towns
pages and your website pages,
have a GREAT WEEKEND!

I guess I will be updating listings
and the directory. Hey ho!

Peel Away Ads

If you already have a website and wish to have a snazzy way of getting your visitors to click your ‘Special Offer’ or an affiliate ad or simply as a way to link to another area of your website, then you have got to check this out.

Rather than the traditional boring pop ups or pop unders that we are used to (assuming your pop up blockers are not working!) this software makes the top of the page curl down to reveal your ad, message or whatever. You can have that link to any page or affiliate website.

See the full deal here (a lot cheaper than I thought) but make sure you click the peel away ad as that reduces the price further.

You can see a video I knocked up that shows you how easy it is to use here - Peel Away Ads.
