Are driving lessons too difficult?

Can you be too careful? We have seen an incredible rise in the costs of Driving Lessons in Milton Keynes, passed onto individuals and companies alike, in funding the state run HSE (health and safety executive). Are we really so scared that we’re prepared to pay through the roof for such a service?

Is this right? Whilst there can be no serious argument that living and working in a safe and secure environment is preferential, society as a whole seems to have got it into it’s head that no one should ever be injured or killed ever - and damn the cost in making it so.

It is a fact that accidents happen, they always have and always will. So rather than running the expense of a massive state led safety gestapo, it must surely be time to return to the days of self responsibility, taking account for our own health and safety.

To that extent, and as an example of how far we’ve gone in the UK on our paranoia of injury, learning to drive in the UK has evolved from what was a common sense driving test, to a written exam, hazard awareness test, car maintenance as well as a tightly marked practical examination.

Addressing the need to produce safe drivers surely has to be balanced against the cost of producing them. It is already an expensive exercise to learn to drive. Those doing so are also young, often not earning and are most likely the people least likely to be able to afford lessons.

Down under, Australia has a far more typically pragmatic approach to driver safety. Rather than making new learner drivers spend a fortune (it’s still expensive mind) on unneeded testing, they are forced to highlight to other road users that they are inexperienced drivers by having to display bright green P plates on their vehicle for two years from passing their test. The costs of which a couple of dollars. The P in this case refers to the fact that a new driver is only given a provisional license until they are deemed experienced enough to be full drivers.

If it was the case that the UK had a sparkling safety record on the roads (compared to other EU countries we are low on the safety record despite the new test regime) then there may be an argument for the costs of all those additional parts to the driving test. The fact of the matter is the HSE and DVLA have systematically put in place systems and procedures which, whilst creating marginal improvements in safety, have generated themselves millions of pounds. Call me cynical but it smells of another stealth tax rather than a concerned effort to make driving safer.

Experience is the only genuine way to become a better driver. Of course, some things will always go wrong, accidents do happen and although this is of course not good news, is a hard fact of life. We are never going to eradicate this so let’s cut out these needless costs.

If you are looking for affordable driving lessons in Derby, then check out thIn e A38 driving school. Idealy suited to learner drivers or those needing a confidence boost. They also provide access to Polish speaking instructors.

Are Intensive Driving Courses for You?

So, what is an intensive driving course?

Everyone is different and the number of hours training/practice required to reach the appropriate standard for the driving test will vary from person to person. In my experience, the number of hours required for the average person varied between 25 to 35. Obviously, some people will do this quicker and others longer. Much depends on any previous road experience (had driving lessons previously, driven a moped/motorbike), their level of spatial awareness (the ability to judge distance, speed and angles) and any private practice they may undertake. Some people take to driving like a duck to water, others do not!

How to Save Money With Driving Lessons

Driving lessons Milton Keynes
Driving lessons are expensive but there are a number of ways you could try to save money with driving lessons.

1) Book for 5 lessons or more to get the quantity discount, i.e. block booking. Most of the driving schools offer this service, so you can book driving lessons in advance and get discounts. You can still choose the time and date but it all depends upon your availability and your driving instructor’s availability. The downside of block booking is that if you are not happy with your instructor for some reason, you might get stuck with him/her until you have taken all the hours.
The solution is to take 1st lesson and if you are happy with the instructor pay him/her for the block booking and get discount, your instructor would be more than happy to do that.

2) Read the Highway Code thoroughly to understand the rules and explanation, which the examiners are particularly interested to see that you understand. Highway Code rules and explanation are very easy to understand, do not just keep the book on the shelf, read it thoroughly. You can get one from your local book store, it only cost few pounds but this book is a necessary tool for anyone who is driving or learning to drive.

Most students have this misconception that because they are the rules, they are written in legal language, they are written in simple English and easy for you to understand. Even if you do have any problem understanding them, ask your driving instructor to explain.
As long as you read the Highway Code thoroughly and acquire knowledge of the rules, you can put them in practice during your driving lessons. This way you would have a better chance of passing your driving test easily and also saving money with driving lessons.

3) After every lesson write down in detail
What you have learnt?
What were your mistakes?
What you have improved?
And what you practiced during the lesson?

It is also important to revise it before the driving lesson so you will be better prepared for your lesson, this way you would be able to save time and thus lots of money.

Easily said then done for most students. If you are taking one lesson every week it is very easy to forget, what you have learnt in the last lesson. Do not be lazy about writing it down, as soon as you finish your lesson; write it down in detail about your lesson. Your aim should be to write your mistakes, and what you have improved as well as what new you have learnt in the lesson. Your driving instructor would be more than happy to help you with the recap before and after the lesson.

4) Lastly, if you have some one in your family or friends, who has got a license for more than 3 years they might be able to help, they can sit with you in a car while you practice your driving skills. You need to get the insurance for this purpose. This way you would be able to save a lot of money with your driving lessons.
The downside is not everyone has the patience to teach, and driving instructions do require a lot of patience. Also an experienced driver might pass on driving skills which might not be approved by the driving standards agency and the examiners.

Learning to drive could be very expensive but it is an investment for life and it does open a world of opportunities for everyone including you.

Saad Saleem writes on a variety of subjects including learning to drive and safe driving for life.

New Driving School Car

Joe’s Driver Training

I have been on the lookout for a new car for my driving school in Ballymena, after reading loads of reviews and reflecting on the downsides of my current car I decided that I needed a car that was safe, comfortable, stylish and easy to drive.

My current car is petrol and it has caused some problems with pupils who have already been learning to drive in diesel cars, they find it difficult to find clutch bite and most have not been taught to set the gas, we have been able to overcome this problem with a little practice and perseverance, some however were not prepared to persevere and decided they only wanted to learn to drive in a diesel.

The other downside to my current car was that it did not have air conditioning, the problem here was that on a cold day during driving lessons the car would steam up and we would have to open the windows to allow them to clear, on warmer days the inside of the car could get very hot and uncomfortable especially during manoeuvres.

With all this taken into consideration it became obvious that my next driving school car would have to be safe, comfortable, easy to drive, diesel, and have air conditioning.

I had heard great reports about the Toyota Yaris from other driving instructors in Ballymena who use these cars for their driving schools.A Driving Instructor friend of mine then asked me if I could do him a favour by taking a pupil for a pre-test lesson and driving test in his car.As his car is a Toyota Yaris this not only gave me the opportunity to test drive the car but also to instruct in it.

I found the Toyota Yaris to be very easy to drive and most forgiving as well as comfortable and very stylish, it really ticked all the boxes and as Ballymena test centre is just opposite the local Toyota dealer I was able to nip in while the pupil was on test and strike a deal!
Delivery times were also very fast, so in a few days time Joe’s Driver Training will be teaching pupils to drive in a brand new Toyota Yaris 14 D4D!!

You Need To Be Safe On The Road

Learning to drive requires that you understand the rules of the road, the different aspects of your vehicle, and the defensive methods that will keep you safe. Operating a motor vehicle is a great privilege that requires you understand all of the important details that will keep you safely driving.

All of these aspects are important to your ability to stay safe on the road. Five of the most important things you should know are in this article. Here is information about car insurance, car for safety, aggressive drivers, and defensive driving. When you are learning to drive, you must consider all of these items.

Costs of insurance can be high and difficult to pay every month; however, if you do not have insurance and you continue to drive you could be putting yourself in danger of losing your license, high fines, and even possibly jail time. Some things you can do to reduce the costs of car insurance include taking defensive driving courses and being careful to avoid even small accidents.

Importance of insurance is not just about keeping your license after you learn to drive, but also to protect you and your passengers in case of an accident - it can happen to anyone. You can be driving along peacefully, and someone pulls out in front of you or slams into your back-end. If your state requires insurance and you are hit without having insurance, you are legally responsible for the accident.

Your car insurance is not the only important thing you need - you need to make sure you keep up on the needs of your car. For instance, you should always be checking your car to make sure it is operating correctly and safely. You should monitor your car’s fluids, tires, and other needs of your vehicle. Running out of gas on the highway can cause an accident as you try to get to the side of the road. A sudden flat tire can damage your vehicle and even cause you to drive off the road.

It is important to drive defensively, as this is the only way to be aware of other drivers that may be driving aggressively or not paying attention to other drivers. When you are driving defensively, you have accomplished the next major safety need of driving and will be safer on the road.

Some dangers that happen from aggressive drivers are caused by speeding, failing to stop or give right of way, and not looking when in parking lots or pulling out from driveways. Your driving should always be defensive and avoiding aggressive behavior on the road.

Understanding the rules of the road is essential when learning to drive. This requires not only road rules and regulations but also the safety of your vehicle and the safety of other drivers on the road. When you are learning to drive, be sure to read your vehicle’s manual, the state book on driving, get car insurance, and watch out for aggressive drivers that could put you at risk.

Driving Distracted Or Driving Drunk: Equally Lethal?

The holidays represent a time with family and friends and unfortunately for some that also means driving from one location to another. Law enforcement knows that the chance that we will be out and behind the wheel when we have had a little too much to drink is much greater around holidays. The police call on extra staff in the hopes to curb bad behavior and save lives. But are we not in need of this protection on a day to day basis with all that we do while tearing down the highways?

The average vehicle has a cell phone, a stereo system of some sort and talking GPS system on board. For those more talented, you can change a shirt, read the latest stock quotes on your smart phone or finish that argument that your partner started as you were walking out the door. These distractions are in addition to merging traffic, construction work and the passing thunderstorm.

The laws have cracked down on drunk driving in the effort to make our roads safer. If caught driving while intoxicated, you will be paying fines in the excess of a thousand dollars, you will be taking alternate transportation to work and could possibly spending some time behind bars. The laws regarding the many activities that we can find ourselves engaged in vary from state to state. And the punishment used to remind us to pay attention to the road is a fine ranging from $25-$50. However, most distracting activities are perfectly legal.

When driving drunk, we are in an altered state. The mind and body do not react very quickly, our focus is not where it needs to be and we do things that we might not do otherwise. Driving while multi-tasking, we do not react as quickly to change, our focus is not on the road in front of us and, at we drift into the next lane while we look up latest stock quotes.

It only takes a moment for the car in front of you to suddenly decide to make a right hand turn, complete without the benefit of a turn signal, or for that child to step out from behind a vehicle. As our population grows, our roads become more congested and it is not uncommon to sit in traffic for several hours because of road construction. Some people feel that they cannot go that long without being connected to the office or their family and maybe they actually cannot. But is it acceptable at the expense of others?

The judicial system is slow to catch up with today’s technology. Texting and hand-held cell phones are a no-no while driving but there not any laws that prohibit people from eating, putting on make-up or perusing the internet on our smart phone. The number of drunken driving incidents has gone down because the laws are unbending and not really open too much interpretation.

Many states already have a law regarding texting while driving but it is not that easy for a police officer to determine that someone was texting. The person could have been getting directions from their smart phone via the internet, which is perfectly legal. There is the potential for claims of harassment or precious time taken from our justice system to dispute whether someone was texting or hitting redial. So many officers are not too quick to respond to this law.

Whether it is drunk driving or driving while distracted, we are all operating vehicles that weigh in around 2000 pounds at legal speeds of up to 75 miles per hour. Does it really matter what we were doing when we have put other lives at risk for the sake of having too good of a time at the local pub or the quick text to the wife to find out what’s for dinner?
